The total number of broadband connections at national level in Romania stood at 731,000 by mid-2006, with 83.3% household connections, 16.3% in the business sector and only 0.5% in the administration and the education sector, a new study says.

The study, produced by the International Data Corporation at the request of Cisco Romania, shows Internet cable connections are the most popular technology among private users with 48.3% of the total by mid-2006. LAN connections accounted for 38.3%, while DSL and Metro Ethernet Connections accounted for 6.1%

In the small and medium business sector, the tendency at the time of the study was to abandon to dial-up in favor of DSL and cable connections, while Fixed Wireless connections were preferred by medium and large companies.
