The number of Vodafone clients in Romania reached 7.7 million as the country remains the main engine of growth for the company in Eastern Europe, a company press release says. It adds that Vodafone Romania reported an organic income growth of 29.7% in the fourth quarter of 2006, compared to the same period in 2005.

Vodafone announced its global clients now number 200 million.

In Romania, the number rose by 562,000 in the last three months of 2006, up to 7.71 million, while the number of 3G services users rose to 298,000. By the end of the year, about two thirds of Vodafone clients were pre-paid card users while the rest were subscribers.

Company data show the average monthly income per user stood a 15.6 USD in October-December 2006, up 0.2 USD compared to the same period in 2005.

Vodafone’s main competitor on the Romanian market, Orange announced late last year it had reached the 8 million clients threshold.
