The Lord Mayor of the City of London hosts a reception on Tuesday, January 9 to mark the accession of Romania and Bulgaria to the European Union. Romanian Finance minister Sebastian Vladescu and his Bulgarian counterpart Plamen Oresharski will be special guest to the event, which will lure over 150 representatives of City of London institutions.

The event, due to take place at the Mansion House, the historical residence of the Mayor, will also be attended by Foreign Office representative Lord Triesman. And it will be followed by another reception hosted by the British secretary for Europe Geoff Hoon, with the participation of representatives of the Foreign ministries in Bucharest and Sofia.

Prior to the occasion, Hoon was quoted in a press release issued by the British Embassy to Romania as saying that the EU accession was a victory for the Romanian people whose years of hard work finally bear fruit as Romania is fully worthy of its EU member status.
