The Iasi Court of Justice rejected on Monday the release on probation demand filed by the American historian Kurt Treptow, convicted and doing time for pedophilia.

Treptow's lawyer announced that he issued an appeal against the decision.

Treptow feels that his "work on Dracula" should lower his sentence, since a working day usually represents two less sentence days, according to the Romanian law. Opponents say Treptow's work is nothing but a compilation of already published works.

On the other hand, the penitentiary manager in Iasi confirms that Treptow spent most of his time studying for his scientific work.

Treptow's sentence is 7 years in a maximum security facility and he spent less than five years out of the sentence. The verdict came after the Court was presented with video tapes of Treptow involved in sexual intercourse with minor homeless boys.
