The local authorities of the Brasov county will by the world-famous Bran Castle for 60 million euro and will get the money by leasing with a 10-year loan from an Austrian bank. The move comes eight months after the rightful owner of the castle, now known as “Dracula’s castle”, Dominic Habsburg, got it back in a retrocession process.

In May last year, the new owner said he did now what the castle would be used for in three years, once a deal with local authorities and the Ministry of Culture to maintain it as a museum expires.

The building, first documented in November 1377, is one of Romania’s most important tourism destinations and lures tourists for its association with Bram Stoker’s character Dracula, based on medieval Vallachian ruler Vlad the Impaler.
