The local authorities in Giurgiu meet today the transporters' representatives, in order to decide whether the "frontier transit tax" remain in use or not. For the moment, ecological and transit taxes remain suspended, after the spontaneous protest organized by truck drivers on Saturday morning and once again during the night.

Meanwhile, the state secretary in the Interior Ministry, Mircea Toader, decided that the tax comes against European regulations.

Transport companies claim that the tax is illegal, while local authorities claim that the tax is important for the local budget, which needs the income.

Several Bulgarian officials also say that the tax is illegal and that the European institutions should put some pressure on the local authorities in Giurgiu, so that the tax would be cancelled.
