The former Economy Minister, Codrut Seres, declared on Thursday, while leaving the Prosecutor General's Office he had been charged with treason by divulging secret information.

Seres claims the Strategic Privatizations file is a political move. Prosecutors intended to investigate Seres since he was still the Economy minister, a position he resigned from at the beginning of December.

The former minister was accused by the anti corruption prosecutors of serving the interests of the Stamen Stantchev network on several occasions, from privatizations to cheaper energy contracts.

The treason indictment involves divulging secret information in order to support a transnational criminal group.

Seres responded that the entire deal is a "political file orchestrated by president Basescu, a puppeteer, realized through the actions of the Justice minister, Monica Macovei".
