Italian lawyer Giancarlo Germani formed in Rome the “Romanian Identity Party”, a political formation that should represent the hundreds of thousands of Romanians in Italy. Recently, a businessman formed a Romanian’s party in Spain.

“The Party aims at offering a political space for the most numerous immigrant minority in Italy, which is also the least represented”, said Giancarlo Germani.

Staring in 1992, Romanian citizens abroad have the right to vote for the Romanian elections. Unofficially, almost 2 million Romanians work in Italy. Still, during the last election process, only 30,000 of them voted.

Germani believes that the number of Romanians may double after the 2007 accession to the European Union.
