The Standing Committee of the Liberal Party decided on Monday that hundreds of followers of top dissidents have broken the party’s status and have affected the credibility of the Liberal Party and the governing Liberal-Democrat Alliance.

The two key political players turned Liberal dissidents, Theodor Stolojan and Valeriu Stoica, joined by recently expelled young Liberals Boureanu and Turcan, presented a new Liberal platform over the weekend and launched a harsh attack against current Liberal leadership.

However, neither Stoica, who is still a Liberal, nor Stolojan, expelled from the party last week, nor their followers are going to be sanctioned, according to the party’s spokesman Varujan Vosganian in spite of the call of ten local branches from Transilvania, Western Romania.

MPs and local top Liberals signed the petition which calls for sanctions to be imposed against “those who affected the image of the party and broke its statute”.
