The “Lia Manoliu” National Stadium in Bucharest, once the pride of Romanian sports that has turned into pretty much a ruin over the past decade, will be demolished and then rebuilt, the General Council of Bucharest has decided. It announced it would invest some 500 million RON in the project and that the construction of another stadium to be used in athletic competitions was planned.

The new national stadium will be used exclusively for football and rugby matches and will have a capacity of 50,000 seats. The funding will be provided by the Bucharest General Council and the Romanian Government.

The investment plan mentions a period of 20 months for the project.
