A Romanian cizizen has charged with espionage by the High Court in Abuja, Nigeria, the France Presse news agency announced. Bogdan Dumitrescu, 51, is part of a group of eight people indicted in the African country, which also includes two Irish, one Israeli, one Russian and three Nigerian citizens.

Romanian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Corina Vantan has confirmed for HotNews.ro that the Romanian citizen was retained October 9 for holding and copying of classified documents. He denies all charges. His next hearing is due on November 21.

And a spokesperson for the Israeli Foreign Ministry announced the charges are related to “strictly commercial” issues and not to “policies or espionage”. If found guilty, the indictees risk sentences of up to 14 years in Nigerian jails.
