The Romanian Government will approve the draft state budget for 2007 in a session on Friday, Finance minister Sebastian Vladescu announced Monday night. He said the leaders of the main parties in the governing coalition, the Liberals and Democrats, have agreed to boost the funds for education and health most next year, to 5% and 4% of the GDP respectively.

„Education will receive over 5% of the GDP for the first time - we discuss in fact about tripling the budget in a three-year period.

Also a first, over 4% of the GDP will go to the health system”, he said, adding that programs for environment infrastructure and transports are fully funded and that Romania can fully absorb European funds as far as budget allocations are concerned.

Vladescu said a significant boost will be given to pensions, but left the details to be presented by the Labour minister.
