New car sales reported a 16.2% growth in the first eight months of 2006, up to 141,086 units, but dropped 32.1% in august compared to the previous month, down to 18.817 sold units, according to data from the Association of Car Producers and Importers-APIA.

Renault’s Romanian car maker Dacia continues to lead in terms of sales volume but its market share fell by 5% to 38.9% in January-August 2006. Overall, Romanian car makers reported a 2.3% sales boost during the period while demand for imported cars rose 33.3% to 84.352 units.

Dacia sold most cars during the period with 63.731 units. It is followed by Daewoo (15,888) and Renault (13,870), with market shares of 9.7% and 8.5% respectively.
