Romanian president Traian Basescu unleashed himself against the Parliament during a TV show on Friday morning, accusing MPs of ignoring the fact that the main intelligence services in the country are headless for the time being and of failing to name replacements at their helm.

Basescu made the intervention as Romania faces an unprecedented situation in which the heads of all three major intelligence services in the country have been dismissed. For a short period this week, the story was further complicated when the Defense minister was suspended and the Chief of Staff of the Romanian Army replaced.

“I’m not bothered with bringing down five heads at one”, he said during the TV show.

He said, however, that he did not force the heads of the intelligence services to step down but only let them know he no longer trusted them. And he warned it was the duty of the Parliament to name replacements for these jobs.
