The Defense minister Teodor Atanasiu asked for the replacement of Army Chief of Staff General Eugen Badalan following his criminal investigation in the tiers scandal that involved an exchange between the Army and the Tofan Group that brought serious loss to the Romanian Army. The Romanian president approved the Defense minister’s request.
This measure has been taken following Badalan’s refusal to “put him self at disposal”, procedure that implies the withdrawal of a high rank official from his post. The General asked to be “replaced”.
Badalan will be replaced by the vice-admiral Gheorghe Marin, the chief of Romanian Navy.
