A ceremony to commemorate the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, five years since they happened, will be organized in Bucharest in the presence of President Traian Basescu and other top officials on Monday.

The event, organized by the US Embassy to Romania, will be joined by PM Calin Popescu-Tariceanu, Foreign minister Mihai Ungureanu, US Ambassador to Bucharest Nicholas Taubman, members of the government, of the diplomatic corps in the country and cultural and religious leaders.

The ceremony will take place in the hall of and in front of the National Theater in downtown Bucharest and will include a photo exhibition depicting the “horror and heroism” if the September 11 attacks and the days that followed.

In his speech, Ambassador Taubman will say terrorism is an international scourge that needs multilateral resistance on behalf of world democracies.
