The prefect of Eastern Romanian county of Iasi was retained and brought to the National Anti-Corruption Department under bribery charges late on Thursday, August 31. According to various news sources, Prefect Radu Prisacariu was retained over accepting a bribe constisting of a three-hectare property to intervene in in a retrocession case.

The land he received was evaluated to 900,000 euro. He was retained immediately after receiving the ownership documents.

The head of the Iasi state property administration, Flaviu Ionita, and an intermediary, Cristian Maftei, were also retained.

Prisacariu was a Liberal Party member until he was forced to choose between his position and party membership according to the Romanian law. The Liberal Party is a major member of the governing coalition.
