The airlines companies operating in Romania must provide the Border Police with information about their passengers, a Government ordinance adopted on Thursday stipulates. The law aims at improving the border control and the fighting against illegal migration.

This ordinance draws on European legislation and foresees that the personal data regarding name, identity card, citizenship, DOB, the destination, the departure and arrivals hours, the departure point and the number of passengers must be provided to the Border Police.

The passengers will be let know about the destination of their personal data are transmitted via electronic means to the Romanian authorities, kept in a temporary file and deleted within 24 hours as the Romanian law for personal data protection entails.

The refusal of transmitting the required information is fined with 3000 -6000 Euros.
