The National Wine Union warns that the viticulture in Romania has declined significantly as the country’s wine imports is 165.66% more than exports, according to the data released by the Union for the first five months of 2006.

Wine has always been a Romanian product destined to be exported as the country boasts a wine making tradition older than 2500 years. The experts say that it is for the first time in history that the wine imports exceeded exports.

Among the causes that led to this situation, the experts blame the Finane Ministry’s excise policies and the low funds aimed at grapes cultivation.
