The possible authori of an explosion that caused the collapse of a building on Madison Avenue in New York on Monday is Nicholas Bartha, a US citizen of Romanian descent, NY Times reports on Tuesday. Bartha, 66, who’s gone through a difficult divorce, allegedly tried to get avenge by putting the three-storey building he owned on fire.

According to US media, Bartha divorced his wife in 2001 and has shown peculiar behaviour ever since, with depression crises and several suicide attempts.

Doctor Bartha suffered severe burns following the Monday explosion and he was almost unconscious when pulled from beneath the rubble. Police started an inquiry and see the man as the main suspect for the explosion.

According to Reuters, White House has rejected the possibility of a terrorist attack but quoted witnessed who said they believed the explosion was produced by leaking gas.
