The foreign currency reserves of the National Bank of Romania - BNR stood at 18.177 billion euro by the end of June 2006, dorn 35.7 million from the previous month, BNR announced on Tuesday. The drop was caused by foreign debt payments.

418.7 million were spent in June as foreign debt payments, changes to minimal foreign currency reserves at commercial banks and others. 383 million euro returned as income from international reserve management, changes to foreign currency reserves at commercial banks and others.

The gold reserve stood unchanged at 104.8 tons, but its value followed the evolution of international prices down to 1.59 billion euro.
