Nongovernmental credit in Romania rose to 72.3 billion lei by the end of May 2006, 53.3% up from the similar period last year, following a 100% boost of the lei component and 22.6% growth of the currency component, according to data the National Bank - BCR presented on Friday.

Thus, the pace of growth continues, as the nongovernmental credit rose by 51.6% by the end of April 2006, compared to April 2005. But on Tuesday the BNR adopted two measures aimed at limiting the growth of credit operations, especially for the lei component.
