One of the three workers who suffered severe burns in an accident at the Mittal steel plant in the Romanian city of Galati on Wednesday has died in hospital, it was announced on Thursday. The man could not survive the extensive burns he had suffered, which covered 95% of the body surface.

He and two other people were transported to a Bucharest hospital yesterday, shortly after the accident in which four workers were caught on fire after a liquid oxygen leak. The fourth person suffered only minor burns and did not need expert medical intervention in Bucharest.

The medical condition of the two other seriously wounded workers has been improving.
