The current account deficit reached 2.48 bln Euros, according to the National Bank of Romania’s data. The goods and the services recorded an increase of the deficit compared to the same period last year, when the account deficit was 1.8 bln Euros.

Another significant decrease was recorded on tourism market; the deficit amounted to 1 mln Euros in the first quarter of 2006, compared to the 14 mln Euros excedent recorded in Q1 2005.

The current account deficit was covered 91% from direct foreign investments of 2.3 bln Euros.

The external debt on medium and long term came in at 24.5 billion Euro at the end of April 2006, down 0.2% compared to the end of 2005.
