The construction of the Transilvania highway started again on Monday, 28 days after the Romanian authorities paid the money to the American company Bechtel carrying out the building of the road, Transportation minister Radu Berceanu said in a press conference.

According to the provisions of the contract, Bechtel would initiate the workings within 40 days after all payments, following the renegotiation of the agreement between the American company and the Romanian authorities.

The highway project started in 2004, when a 2.2 bln Euros contract was signed by the two parts. The construction was halted at mid 2005, when the Romanian Democratic and Liberal regime decided to analyse anew the contracts previously signed by the Social Democratic government.
