The entity that should manage the Romanian Trade Register has been the subject of a major political debate for years. Until now. Romanian deputies decided on Thursday that the Register should go under the authority of the Chambers of Commerce and no longer stay at the hands of the Justice Ministry.

During debates today, deputies of the Liberal Party, the Hungarian Democrats and the Greater Romania Party supported the idea that the Trade Register go under the wing of the Chambers of Commerce, while deputies of the Democratic Party, the Conservative Party and the opposition Social Democratic Party said it should remain under the authority of the Justice Ministry.

Deputies adopted a draft legislation eventually that says the Romanian Chamber of Commerce and Industry should supervise the organization and activity of the National Office of the Trade Register starting January 1, 2007.
