The inflation rate rose 0.6% in May this year compared to the previous month, leading to an annual inflation rate of 7% in Romania, according to data presented by the National Statistics Institute – INS on Monday. According to the INS report, the situation challenges a trend earlier this year that saw the rate come under the 7% threshold in April, for the first time since 1990.

Price growth for non-food goods and services contributed to the most to the inflation, with a 8.9% growth of tobacco prices and 1.3% for fuel.

In april this year, the national inflation rate stood at 6.92%. The growing prices in May boosted the annual inflation rate to 7.26%.
