The Romanian director Corneliu Porumboiu won the Best Film in competition and the Transilvania Trophy at the Transilvania International Film Festival (TIFF) 2006 for his debut film “A fost sau n-a fost?” (“Was it or wasn’t it?”).

The movie also got the Public’s Choice award at the TIFF in Cluj Napoca, Romania, during this weekend, after being honored with the Camera d’Or award at Cannes earlier this year.

The Best Director Award (5.000 EUR) was offered by Castel Film to the Hungarian Gyorgy Palfi for the film “Taxidermia”

Best Actor Award went to David Dencik in the Danish movie “Soap”, while the Best Cinematography award was offered to Tariel Meliava for “13- Tzameti”, a France –Georgia coproduction.

The most special guest of this year festival was the actress Vanessa Redgrave from Great Britain.

The TIFF jury was made by Romanian born director Radu Mihaileanu, actress

Anamaria Marinca, film critic and historian David Robinson, director Kornel Mundruczo and the manager of Icelandic Movie Center.

The TIFF director Mihai Chirilov stated for Hotnews.ro that the Closing Gala fully characterized the atmosphere of the ten days festival that would move to capital Bucharest in the coming days, 12-23 of June.
