The currency reserves of the Romanian National Bank – BNR stood at 18.2 billion euro by the end of May 2006, down 80.3 million euro compared to April this year. But the gold reserve maintained a constant level of 104.8 tons.

The BNR international reserves stand at about 20 billion euro, according to data published on Monday.

The currency reserve drop was due mainly to some 508.6 million euro spent on rates and interests to the direct foreign public debt, changes to minimum reserves among commercial banks, banking commissions and others, according to BNR data.

BNR reported incomes of 428.3 million euro from the international reserve management, changes to minimum currency reserves among commercial banks and others.
