A government reshuffle in Bucharest is being discussed in separate sessions of the Liberal (PNL) and Democratic (PD) parties on Monday, at the initiative of PD leader Emil Boc. According to unofficial sources, a reduced number of portfolios and possible dismissals of certain ministers including those of Health, Agriculture and Education are on the table.

PNL has announced they would consider changes to the current government but would like to see an analysis of ministers’ actvities before discussing a European-style reshuffling.

Liberal Bogdan Olteanu, speaker of the House of Deputies, has said his group would continue to support Health minister Eugen Nicolaescu and Agriculture minister Gheorghe Flutur, both targeted by a wave of criticism in the wake of the recent bird flu outbreak in Romania.
