Romanians working legally in Spain may receive the same rights and obligations in the welfare sector as any Spanish citizen as the Government in Bucharest approved Wednesday a draft legislation for the ratification of the Romania-Spain Convention on welfare, signed in January 2006.

The convention is mutually applicable, which means the citizens of any state would have equal welfare rights with the citizens of the country they work in.

The document is a boon for the so-called "strawberry pickers" – Romanians working in the Spanish agriculture for better payments than what they would dream of in their home country.
