A reunion of the 1st Romania-EU Association Sub-committee on Agriculture hosted talks on Thursday on measures Romania should take to guarantee the next evaluation of the European Commission on the country's preparation to join the Union in 2007 would be a positive one, according to the Romanian EU Integration Ministry.

Three of the four red-flagged fields of activity identified in the latest EC report on May 16 dealed with agricultural issues, with a fourth focused on fiscal IT systems. Romania hopes to solve the agricultural problems before the next EC evaluation, due in October 2006.

The reunion in Bucharest dealt with Romania's application of the acquis communautaire in the agricultural field, a review of progresses reported by the country in the most sensitive fields noted in the EC report – strenghtening the management capacity of the payment agencies, the Integrated Management and Control System and improvements the veterinary sector.
