Romanian businessman Marian Iancu was placed on a 19-day preventive arrest on Tuesday pending an inquiry on his involvement in suspected embezzlement, money laundering and organized crime operations at the RAFO refinery in Eastern Romania.

The Bucharest Appeals Court made the decision today by admitting a prosecutors’ appeal against a previous court verdict that Iancu stayed at large during the investigation.

Meanwhile, prosecutors have launched another inquiry into suspected illegalities at the Politehnica Timisoara football club, where Iancu was allegedly involved in money laundering activities.
