Romanian President Traian Basescu will leave the Vienna clinic where he underwent a surgical intervention for hernia a week ago tomorrow, presidential spokeswoman Adriana Saftoiu announced today. Basescu will be transferred to the Elias Hospital in Bucharest to continue the post-op recovery program, she said.

According to Saftoiu, Basescu’s post-op evolution is normal but as the Vienna doctors have insisted he would have to continue the recovery program under the supervision of Romanian doctors for at least seven to ten more days. The Romanian team will be led by Dr. Mihai Berteanu of the Elias Hospital.

President Basescu needs intense exercises for several months in order to avoid potential spine problems.
