Doctors at an Austrian clinic where Romanian President Traian Basescu underwent a surgical intervention for hernia on Monday night said on Friday that he was in a good condition and that he made his first post-op steps today.

The president was in an „excellent state" and was glad to hear that he was finally allowed to walk, they said. The medical staff admitted they did not expect Basescu to recover so fast but said he would have to follow a program of exercises to fully recover.

And they failed to say when the president would be able to leave the hospital or whether the media would have the opportunity to visit him in hospital.
