The currency reserves of the Romanian National Bank – BNR stood at 18.3 billion euro by the end of April 2006, up 147.4 million euro compared to the previous month. Total international reserves (currency and gold) now stand at over 20 billion euro.

The latest growth was the result of two main operations, according to the BNR. First, revenues of 557.7 million euro in incomes from international reserve management, the change of minimum currency reserves by commercial banks and the cession of currency to the state reserve.

Secondly, 410.3 million euro left the reserve as paid rates and interests to the public foreign debt as well as due to changes to the minimum currency reserves and others.

The gold reserve stood at 104.8 tons in April 2006.
