Romania will manage to catch up with the advances of the IT sector of the European Union within five to ten years, President Basescu said today. He said at the opening of the IT fair CERF 2006 the country should first recover the time lost in this field before it tries to catch up with Western living standards.

According to the head of state, the differences between urban and rural Romania when it comes to the IT&C sector should be narrowed significantly within five years with the help of governmental programs.

"There are two ways to do things on the Romanian market. One is Microsoft’s, a company that recruits Romanian youth to send them to the United States, and the other is Oracle’s, which established a development center on the local market two years ago and where 200 specialists do their job and their number should go up to 400 before the end of the year", President Basescu said.
