Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu considers "surprising and inappropriate" president Traian Basescu’s statements on a TV station Wednesday night, in a moment when two important events for the country should be in the spotlight: the CEFTA meeting and the good preliminary report delivered by the Enlargement commissioner Olli Rehn.

Traian Basescu stated yesterday evening on TV channel Antena 1 that he regretted appointing Calin Popescu-Tariceanu as prime minister and that he believed the governing alliance DA had no chance of survival.

The PM said that president’s allegations were no novelty but they had surprised by the moment chosen, given that Romania is hosting the South East European Summit, jointly organized with the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe.

Tariceanu also accused Basescu of "irresponsibility" for bringing up the snap elections topic very often, which shows a lack of political maturity on president's behalf.
