Heavy snow storms hit Romania and its capital Bucharest on Tuesday. Bad weather warnings said the snow falls started at noon and would not slow down in much of the country before March 1 in the evening.

Most recent weather reports say snow is pouring all over the country, but will hit the regions of Muntenia, Moldova, Eastern and South Carpathians the hardest.

In Bucharest, deputy mayor Razvan Murgeanu told Hotnews.ro machines could not be sent immediately to the streets to clean up the snow and ease traffic jams because of the windy conditions.

On Wednesday morning, traffic in Bucharest was still difficult, but many roads were cleared of snow overnight.

The snow fell 10-15 liters per square meter in many regions in the south. And in Dobrogea, on the Black Sea coast, forecasts said it would rain and snow up to 25 l/sm. Wind was blowing especially hard in SE of the country and in the mountains.

Much of the traffic in urban Bucharest was jammed on Tuesday and the situation showed no signs of improvement until late at night.

Hundred of cars were paralyzed on national roads, highways were

blocked on Tuesday evening.
