The High Council of Magistrates started talks today over a report on how an inquiry on criminal charges against a Romanian yoga guru has allowed Sweden to grant him shelter against extradition requests from Bucharest. De talks have been repeatedly postponed for the lack of sufficient attendance for a decision to be made in this regard.

The Justice Ministry requested an inquiry on the way the investigation went against yoga guru Gregorian Bivolaru, leader of the MISA yoga movement, and other members of the group. The request came after the Swedish authorities rejected a call by Romania to extradite Bivolaru.

The magistrates decided to check the issue after several media alleged Bivolaru was silently supported in his drive to remain in Sweden, through a lack of necessary documentation in supporting the official request to Sweden.

Bivolaru was indicted in 2004 for sex with an underaged woman and illegal crossing of state borders.
