Romanian Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu considers that president Traian Basescu has made some inaccurate statements when referring to a recently annulled Swiss-Romanian agreement that allowed a Swiss company in the energy field to directly contract public works valued at more than 1.2 billion euros.

Basescu previously sanctioned the agreement as favoring certain pressure groups. He reiterated his position Monday when saying that corruption level went down, but risks still existed hinting at the Romanian-Swiss agreement.

The premier reminded that the agreement was annulled in order to eliminate any suspicions and to prove that there were no pressure groups behind the accord, blaming the misunderstanding on the faulty content of the contract.

The Government annulled the agreement Friday, 17, after it sparked mass media’s vocal criticism.
