The Government promises cleaner beaches, European services and less pollution on the Romanian Black Sea coast as it adopted a Governmental decision on Thursday night to use public tenders to let the beaches on 10-year rents.

The measure is aimed at promoting a sustainable development policy on the Romanian seaside, Government spokeswoman Oana Marinescu has said.

The Romanian beach sector will be segmented in 33 parts to be put on tender under the control of the "Romanian Waters" National Administration, which will retain 50% of the income. The rest will go to the state budget.

Renting a beach for ten years with a possibility for longer terms provides stability to economic agents interested in investing in this field and helps him recover investment costs more easily.

Environment minister Sulfina Barbu said the procedures will start in due time to have the beaches ready for tourists by the beginning of the summer season.
