The Competition Council launched an official investigation of the cleaning services in Bucharest, a press release of the authority informs. The council will analyze the market and determine whether the local administrations have breached the competition law by intervening on the market.

According to the competition law, any intervention from central or local administration that impedes or limits the services available on the market is illegal. Locally, the competition is pretty tough when the administration needs to choose which service to clean up the city.

Thus, according to the law, local administration officials need not sign exclusivity contracts on a longer term nor offer the contract without public tenders. These actions hinder competitiveness and are, therefore, illegal.
