In about a month, local authorities will decide the location of a new airport in South Bucharest and an official announcement will be made regarding a modernization project of the road surrounding Bucharest, Transportation Minister Ludovic Orban announced in a debate organized by local newspaper Ziarul Financiar. According to Orban, citizens will be able to use an alternative railway ring surrounding Bucharest if investments of over 300 million euro are secured.

Orban also presented several undergoing infrastructure projects and said that the highway linking Bucharest to Ploiesti will have to be finished by 2009. Another project regards the modernization of the road surrounding Bucharest to improve traffic conditions in the city.

Last but not least, Orban said that Bucharest has an unexploited railway ring surrounding it. However, Orban argued that local authorities still need to secure some 300 million euro to be able to integrate the circuit for public use.
