A series of major events are organized across Romania on Monday, one day after the general elections, as the country marks its National Day and 90 years since the unification of its regions. In Bucharest, a military parade in the area of the Arch of Triumph started at 11.00 a.m. and already ended, while traffic in the area remains closed for another several hours.

The parade was attended by President Traian Basescu, PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu, other political, military, governmental and Orthodox Church leaders.

Over 2,000 troops of the Defense and Interior ministries as well as of intelligence services attended the parade. But demonstrative flights of IAR Puma Socat helicopters MIG 21 Lancer planes were canceled because of thick fog.

Another such parade is due to take place in Alba Iulia, central Romania.

In Bucharest, traffic in north Bucharest remains closed until 1.00 p.m..
