Romanian Ministry for Transport and Infrastructure (MTI) signed a loan with the European Investment Bank (EIB) worth of 300 million euros for the Drumul Taberei-Universitate underground in Bucharest. The deadline for the agreement was November 22, Romanian Transport minister Radu Berceanu announced on Thursday, according to Romanian news agency NewsIn.

Berceanu labelled the future underground connection from Romania’s capital as "extremely important and necessary". According to him, EIB is ready to increase the loan with as much as needed, on condition that the Romanian authorities back the rest of the expenditure.

The Drumul Taberei-Universitate section is part of the Thoroughfare 5 Underground and will connect Drumul Taberei and Pantelimon on 6.1 kilometres. The project includes eight stations, namely Brancusi, Romancierilor, Parc Drumul Taberei, Drumul Taberei 34, Favorit, Orizont, Academia Militara and Eroilor. The total costs of the infrastructure are estimated at 740 million euros.
