Renault Dacia car sales grew to cover 2.6% of the French new car market in the past couple of months, outrunning BMW, Audi and Mercedes which were leading last year, the French committee regulating the sector informed.

Thus, in January and February, Dacia sold over 8,600 cars, more than double as compared to the same period last year. Dacia reaches the first top ten with a 2.6% share of the market, closely followed by Mercedes with 1.2%, BMW with 1.8%. Even Audi shares dropped, achieving a new market share of 2.1%.

Overall, the French market sold more than 337,000 cars in the first two months of the year, registering a 2.4% advance. Local French models hold 55% of the market and their sales increase, especially Citroen with 10%. Renault is the new market leader, with 21% closely followed by Peugeot with 19%.
