Jordanian businessman Fathi Taher is very close to become the new owner of Bucharest-based football club Rapid, declaring that he reached a first agreement with the current owner, George Copos to purchase 80% of the shares.

Taher told Romanian news agency NewsIn that his lawyers were currently negotiating the deal and he would sign the papers whenever the two parts will convene. Speculations arose recently about Copos's intention to sell 80% of his shares to the Jordanian businessman for 30 million euro.

The sum, supposedly, represents a loan took from Copos for a real estate investment. It seems that the transaction will change the head of the Rapid football club. A first step in this direction was the announcement Rapid officials made that the club signed a sponsorship contract of 200.000 euro annually with Griro (where Taher is administrator) for the upcoming five seasons.
