Car and commercial vehicle sales grew by 33% in January and February 2008 as compared to the similar period last year, up to 51,000 units while exports advanced by 54%, according to the main association of car producers and importers in Romania, APIA.

Thus, car sales grew by 28% to over 42,300 units while commercial vehicle sales increased by 62% exceeding 8,150 units. Bus sales also grew by 103% reaching 650 units sold.

Romania's internal production also grew by 51% to 48,000 cars in the first two months while exports increased by 54% and import sales increased by 38% to a little over 39,500 units. In terms of brands, Dacia continues to lead, with over 14,000 units sold as it holds almost a quarter of the market (28%). Dacia is closely followed by Skoda which holds 8% of the market and Volkswagen with 7.3%.
