The Romanian currency RON maintained its gains against the euro on Tuesday as the European currency reached 3.7083 RON, down 0,013 RON as compared to Monday. An upward trend was also visible on the Bucharest Stock Exchange BVB, where the index covering the five financial investment societies (SIFs) rose 1.54% on Tuesday.

Romanian news agency NewsIn quotes banking specialist Ciprian Mihai according to whom the RON performance was helped by expectations that the central bank would boost its key interest on Wednesday.

The exchange rate listed by the National Bank (BNR) on Tuesday showed a 1.36% boost for the RON against the US dollar (2.3790 lei/dollar) and a 0.36% boost against the euro.

Meanwhile, trading on the BVB summed up to 34.90 million RON (9.41 million euro), 23.19% higher than on Monday. The main BVB index BET-C improved 0.39%, but the BET index covering the most traded stocks rose by 0.05% only. BET-FI, the index covering the five financial investment societies, rose most - 1.54%.
